How it works
Your firm, your bank, what you do and who you billed. Pick a chat, short steps or the full form. No codes to look up.
HDFC's own workbook, or a standard letter for SBI, ICICI, Axis and others, plus the official RBI form.
Print, sign with your firm's stamp and give them to your branch within 30 days after the month ends.
What you take to the bank
- 01Request letter. Asks your bank to file the EDF and lists your invoices.
- 02Annexure. One row per client and currency, the way banks ask.
- 03Invoice details. Every invoice number, date and amount.
- 04The RBI form. The official EDF every bank works from.
A payout receipt is not an invoice. Make a proper export invoice in the layout you like; it goes straight into your EDF.
Open the invoice makerHDFC's own EDF workbook, filled in without changing its layout. For other banks, a standard request letter plus the RBI form.

Questions
What is an EDF, in plain words?
A declaration your bank files with the Reserve Bank of India for the services you sold to clients abroad, confirming what you billed and that the money will come to India. Since 1 October 2026 it's needed for exports of services, once a month, covering that month's invoices.
Who has to file an EDF for services?
Firms, LLPs and companies that export services, which means invoicing a client outside India. There is no minimum amount. On 7 October 2026 RBI said individuals are not covered and that it will publish FAQs; until then, ask your bank how it treats proprietors.
I'm a freelancer. Do I need this?
Probably not, if you invoice as an individual: on 7 October 2026 RBI said individuals are not covered, and it plans to publish FAQs. If your invoices go out in the name of a firm, LLP or company, you do need to file. Proprietors: ask your bank until RBI's FAQs settle it.
When exactly is it due?
Within 30 days after the end of the month in which you raised the invoice. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. Separately, the money has to reach India within 9 months of the invoice date, or 12 months if you invoiced in rupees.
What happens if I miss the deadline?
Talk to your bank as soon as you can: the rules allow the bank to extend the time when you give a reasonable cause. The bigger risk is the money itself. If export proceeds stay unpaid for more than a year past their due date, future exports may only be allowed against full advance payment or a letter of credit. This is not legal advice; check with your bank or CA.
What exactly do I get?
For HDFC Bank: HDFC's own "Export declaration form and request letter (Services)" workbook, filled in without changing its layout. For every other bank: a standard request letter addressed to your bank, with the annexure of invoices (one row per client and currency), the FEMA declarations and the list of enclosures. Everyone also gets the official RBI Export Declaration Form as a PDF.
Will my bank accept the standard letter?
HDFC is the only bank that has published its own EDF format so far. For other banks, the RBI form is the official EDF every bank works from, and our letter covers what banks ask for. If your branch wants its own covering letter, copy the details across, and send us the blank through "Coming soon" so we can add your bank's exact format.
Do you see or store my data?
No. The files are made inside your browser. Your firm details and draft invoices are saved only in this browser so you don't retype them next month. We count page visits and downloads, never what you type. See the privacy note.
